Alameda County Office of Dental Health is pleased to introduce our new Dental Health Administrator Dr. Shakalpi Pendurkar.
Prior to joining us, Dr. Pendurkar provided leadership on oral health in two Bay Area counties, including as Director of the Oral Public Health Program for San Mateo County. There, she led the implementation of the SMC Local Oral Health and Strategic Plans and led the development and implementation of a school-based school-linked oral health program, framework for an oral health surveillance system for monitoring and preventing oral diseases, promoting oral health and providing dental health education.
For over 18 years, Dr. Pendurkar has worked as Lead Supervising Dentist at Gardner Health Services, an FQHC in the heart of downtown San Jose. She is committed to improving access to care and the overall health of her patients and has successfully advocated for the fluoridation of San Jose's drinking water. Dr. Pendurkar is part of Santa Clara County's Coalition Against Sugar-Sweetened Beverages. She is currently President of the Board of Directors at the Santa Clara County Dental Society, and a Delegate to both the California Dental Association and the American Dental Association. She is the Founder and Chair of the Collaborative for Oral Health and Chief Advisor to Santa Clara County LOHP.

The Office of Dental Health (ODH) promotes the oral health and well-being of Alameda County residents. This is achieved by: assessing the community’s needs, providing dental health education, providing linkages to needed resources, and collaborating with community partners. We also provide some direct services, including dental screenings, fluoride varnish and sealants through our school-based programs and at WIC sites. We strive to decrease health disparities and ensure oral health equity by increasing access to care for Medi-Cal recipients, the uninsured and under-insured. We work with policymakers to develop strategies to promote oral health and prevent oral disease.

Vision & Mission
The Office of Dental Health supports efforts to improve the oral health of Alameda County residents by partnering with the community to assess oral health status and resources and to assure access to community-based services and oral health education. We actively engage in policy development that incorporates evidence-based dental disease prevention and promotes oral health equity.

Oral Health Committee
Established in 2012, the Oral Health Committee of the Alameda County Public Health Commission provides oversight of the implementation, prioritization and quality assurance of the Strategic Plan on Oral Health. The committee is comprised of select Public Health Commissioners, dental health professionals, medical professionals, and oral health advocates who have the expertise and interest in advocating for policies that promote dental health.
